Britain’s Princess Anne visited London Fashion Week on Wednesday, to see a day of innovative collections.

The Princess watched a catwalk show featuring daringly skimpy dresses by Copperwheat Blundell.

Other highlights of the day included collections by Workers for Freedom and Katharine Hamnett.

Hamnett spoke for many when she said British designers were the best — although they’re far too modest to boast about it.

Workers for Freedom took brown and red as it main themes.

Clothes were matched with thick scarves and hair.

Jackets and coats were tailored and sophisticated.

Britain’s Princess Anne arrived to watch the “intellectually cool” Copperwheat Blundell show.

She was taken on a tour of the exhibitors in her role as president of the British Knitting and Clothing Export Council.

She settled down to watch a show featuring daring low-cut dresses and skimpy skirts, along with men in furry waistcoats.

But she certainly seemed to be enjoying herself.

It’s London’s largest ever fashion week, and the designers were keen to tell the world how good British fashion has become:

SOUNDBITE: (English)
“The British press I think have always played it down, we’re very bad at marketing, because there’s this whole kind of English thing, like you can’t boast. If you’re a one man band it’s always the case that anyone who says they’re famous (..inaudible) . You can’t say I’m the greatest, I’m the best, because that’s bad. So we don’t do it. But we are.”
SUPER CAPTION: Katharine Hamnett, designer

Katharine Hamnett has a reputation for producing outfits consisting of little more than fishnet stockings, high heels and g-strings.

But this time her collection was tame by comparison.

Knee length skirts with cardigans and fur stoles gave her show a 1940s feel.

It’s something the British shops will be falling over themselves to copy.

But she did produce plenty of eye-catching evening dresses to bring her show to a close.
