‘On This Day 1961: London Fashion Designers on Display’
On This Day 1961, London-based designers Mattli and Hardy Amies showcased their latest designs.
As members of the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers – or IncSoc – both men had great influence over London’s post-war fashion industry.
Hardy Amies was himself vice-chair of IncSoc, and most famously served as one of Queen Elizabeth’s official dressmakers from 1955. He is credited with establishing the understated style of dress for which the Queen is known.
