It is time to celebrate 69 years of Independence and Bollywood fashion together. Fashion & lifestyle go hand in hand. The Bollywood style evolution from 1940 to 2000s has played a great role in shaping our fashion taste. Let us take a look at the most popular Bollywood fashion & lifestyle trends that have stood the test of time.

1940-1950: This black and white era saw the popularity of dungarees for women.

1950-1960: This was the decade when Anarkali Salwar suits originated, inspired by the beautiful and colourful suits that Madhubala wore in Mughal-e-Azam.

1960-1970: Vibrant sarees with sleeveless blouses became the style statement of this decade, inspired by Mumtaz’s look in the movie Brahmachari. An updo hairstyle became a fashion & lifestyle trend.

1970-1980: Zeenat Aman’s look in Yaadon Ki Baarat ushered in a shift from sarees to modern wear. This iconic ensemble features a knee-length dress with long sleeves and a belt.

1980-1990: As Bollywood embraced the disco era, long dresses with side slits became the new fashion & lifestyle trend.

1990-2000: Raveena Tandon popularised the yellow chiffon saree in the famous Tip Tip Barsa Paani song.

The 2000s: The little black dress became a wardrobe staple of women in the new millennium. Body con dresses with high heels became the formula to look effortlessly sexy.
