1930 fashion reflected a new sense of femininity. Was it merely a triumph of the dress makers? Who can tell. But the hemline fell to the ankle and waist returned to normal. To look as slim as a may pole in the 1930’s, entailed wearing lingerie that was reduced to nothing. Just a caress. It was no longer smart to be the slick flapper, but to be feminine in a new calm way. Treating the body, as though it were a piece of sculpture.
Despite the change in line, the continuing trend in ready to wear fashions, went on.
For 1930s sportswear, women at last wore garments that were sensible. Detachable skirts for skating. Beach clothes that were easily discarded. And 1930s swimsuits that were entirely suited to swimming.
